The Moscow Synodal Choir under the direction of Alexei Puzakov and the Moscow Virtuosos Chamber Orchestra open the annual festival of sacred music timed to the celebration of Christmas. Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk will also take part in the concert.

The new program of the choir has been specially prepared for the Christmas festival. It includes sacred chants of Russian composers alongside with the verses recited by the theatre and film actress Elena Zakharova, as well as various Russian and Ukrainian traditional carols.

Nidaros Cathedral Boys' Choir is Norway's first boys choir. It continues the over 900 year old heritage of boys' choir singing at the cathedral. Christmas music from around the world will allow the young artists to demonstrate their skills both as soloists and in a cappella choral singing. Handel's “Hallelujah” accompanied by the grand organ will crown the concert as a spectacular final chord.

By tradition, the artistic director of the festival Vladimir Spivakov will take part in its closing concert together with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia and the “Masters of Choral Singing”. The Requiem of Karl Jenkins - an amazing example of the interweaving of traditions of the East and West – will be performed for the first time in Moscow.
